When ancient book restorer Su Wan repairs the ancient painting *Morning and Twilight in the Mortal World*, she accidentally inhales its spiritual energy and wakes up Shen Qingci, a Northern Song scholar trapped for a century. Mistaking her for his deceased wife he long obsessed over waiting for, Shen Qingci develops deep affection as they stay together day and night. Yet Su Wan finds his wife's suicide note in the painting's interlayer, revealing the cross-time wait was a misplaced obsession—his wife didn't die back then, she chose a new life after being separated by war. Between morning and twilight, the tug-of-war between love and fate bursts out.
