Aman, the last guardian of the Holy Gu Clan in Miao territory, devotes her life to protecting the "Soul-Returning Gu" that can resurrect the dead. She meets Gu Zhao, a Central Plains nobleman disguised as a medicine merchant—he's here to steal the Gu to save his terminally ill sister. From mutual hostility to secret affection, Aman senses Gu Zhao's hidden tenderness, while Gu Zhao understands Aman's persistence isn't stubbornness, but a refusal to let the Gu fall into greedy hands. When the clan elder threatens Aman's life to force Gu Zhao to hand over the Gu, the Soul-Returning Gu suddenly recognizes its master—it only chooses those "willing to die for others". And Gu Zhao has long been willing to give up everything for Aman. In the end, they use the Gu to save the sister and break the curse: the deadliest calamity is falling in love with the one who came to steal your most precious thing.
