Xiao Zhao, a playful little immortal from the heavens, is banished to the mortal world for touching the Immortal Rule Stele. Her mission: resolve ten cases of "defiant obsessions." She uses magic to help a PUA-ed office worker stand up to their boss, gives a bullied girl back her courage, turning "defiance" into "satisfaction." But she meets her match in Gu Shen, a cold lawyer who, abandoned by his mother as a child, has become a "rational machine." He not only exposes her magic tricks but retorts, "Mortal pain has to be endured by oneself." From bickering to investigating Gu Shen's mother's old case together, Xiao Zhao finds her immortal power returning as she feels sorry for Gu Shen—turns out the ultimate answer to "tackling defiance" is learning to "empathize." And Gu Shen, through her chaos, rediscovers how to "believe in warmth."
