Lin Wan, a classical painting restorer, keeps hearing a clear flute melody from the Song Dynasty painting *Crane Returning Between Clouds* she's restoring—as if it's an echo engraved in her soul. Gu Zhao, a composer living across the street, is stuck on a 'missing fragment' of his new piece—his mind is haunted by the exact same flute tune. When Lin Wan touches the crane-patterned robe of the boy in the painting, Gu Zhao's piano suddenly plays that melody on its own. When Gu Zhao plays the flute on his balcony, Lin Wan sees a vision from a thousand years ago: under the clouds, a boy played the flute while a girl waved her handkerchief. It turns out the painting holds their unfulfilled promise from a past life, and this time-transcending 'echo' is fate's signal for them to reunite...
