Qiao Jiale, a Nuo opera actor hiding in the city, is actually the descendant of the sealed Savior Nuo God. When fake god forces try to cut off his incense (source of divine power) and tamper with Nuo culture for profit, he's forced to awaken his divine power to fight back. He tangles with Li Ru, a cold cultural relic restorer investigating ancient Nuo masks—from bickering about “pretending to be a god” and “stuffy relic fanatic” to working together to expose the fake gods' schemes. They fall for each other while guarding Nuo opera heritage, but dare not confess due to the gap between “god and human”. When the last wisp of incense is about to go out and Qiao prepares to risk his life alone, Li Ru takes out a Nuo mask she's hidden for three years: “I knew you were the Nuo God long ago—this time, let me protect you.” Can the thousand-year-old heritage flame rekindle in the city, along with their love?
