Su Xiaotang, a down-on-her-luck office worker, gets laid off right before New Year and faces her mom’s ultimatum: “No boyfriend, no home for the holidays.” Hiding from the rain, she stumbles into a wounded man in ancient robes—Li Zhao, emperor of Daqi, on the run from assassins! Desperate to escape her family’s marriage pressure, she “kidnaps” this “ancient hottie” as her fake boyfriend; Li Zhao, in turn, uses the “modern boyfriend” identity to hide from danger. Now stuck in her tiny rental, they navigate her mom’s nagging about meeting the “son-in-law,” her brother’s teasing about red envelopes, and the looming threat of Li Zhao’s assassins. From bickering over dumplings to protecting each other, their chaotic cohabitation blooms into unexpected warmth. Turns out, the best New Year isn’t about money or pride—it’s about finding someone you’d “grab” and never want to let go.
