Lin Xiaoman, a young professional who just settled down in a first-tier city, is suddenly visited by her mother who vanished for a decade. Using "filial piety" as a chain, her mother forces Xiaoman to quit her job and return to the county to care for her "seriously ill" grandmother—confiscating her salary card, breaking up her relationship, and even monitoring her social life. But when Xiaoman secretly finds her grandmother's real medical records, she discovers her mother's "filial piety" is all a lie: Grandma is perfectly healthy, and her mother just wants to trick Xiaoman into selling the old house to pay off gambling debts. When Xiaoman confronts her with the truth, her mother weeps and hugs her: "I'm just scared you'll suffer like I did..." Torn between the moral blackmail of "filial piety" and her shattered identity, Xiaoman's choice carries the pain of everyone hurt by the phrase "for your own good."
