Lin Wanguan rushes home overnight upon hearing of her mother's "accidental death", only to find the funeral shrouded in weirdness—her brother Lin Yang is in a hurry to cremate the body, her father evades questions, and even the neighbor aunt, who was most beloved by her mother, dare not look her in the eye. When she finds her mother's insurance policy, she is shocked to see her brother is the beneficiary with a million-yuan coverage; further investigation reveals the death time doesn't match Lin Yang's claim of "sudden heart attack"—turns out, when their mother fell, Lin Yang was playing games and missed the golden rescue period. To defraud the insurance, he falsified records, bribed doctors, and forced the whole family to lie. When the truth is uncovered, Lin Wanguan collapses staring at her mother's portrait: her brother's greed stole her chance to say "Mom" one last time, and the pain of "wanting to care but being too late" becomes the heaviest regret of her life.
