Mist Over the Mountain Temple

In the late autumn of the 23rd year of the Republic of China, three mountain peddlers took shelter in a mountain temple halfway up the hill when a thick fog suddenly engulfed them. Midway through catching their breath, their companion Agui vanished into the fog out of thin air. The remaining two, Wang Shun and Li Zhu, were horrified to find unfamiliar small footprints on the altar's incense ash, and the temple door had been locked from the inside. Faint childlike whimpers drifted through the fog outside the window. When they overturned the stone statue, they found a half-bloodstained embroidered handkerchief behind it, with an identical pattern to their own traveling pouches — the handkerchief belonged to the opera actress who had gone missing in these mountains three days prior.
