Lin Chuan, a top screenwriter of royal guard dramas, travels to the Great Jing Dynasty and becomes Lu Zhao, the most miserable "worthless heir"—his mother died, his father abandoned him, and he's betrothed to Su Wantang, the "widow-star" daughter of the National Protector General. On the day Su Wantang comes to break the engagement with a knife, Lu Zhao unexpectedly binds to the "Royal Guard Commander System" and unlocks his previous life's skills of investigation and immortal cultivation! To hide his strength, he pretends to be useless to tease the fiery Su Wantang: replacing her sword with rock sugar gourd, clinging to her as a "sidekick" when she investigates cases. But when Su's father is framed and imprisoned, and the murder plot against the original Lu Zhao surfaces, Lu Zhao has to reveal his power—breaking into the Ministry of Justice to save Su's father, catching the martial arts leader's sword with one hand, solving the palace secret case... Su Wantang, who originally wanted to break the engagement, gradually finds that this "worthless heir" is not only cheeky but also has world-shocking abilities. And her cold heart quietly falls for his deliberately foolish smile.
