Urban elite Gu Jingshen is stopped by a Taoist-robed girl Lin Xiaoman late at night, who claims he will die before midnight and asks for 100,000 yuan to change his fate. Gu dismisses it as a scam—until 12 a.m., when elevator malfunctions, falling objects, and brake failure hit one after another, exactly matching Lin's "death predictions". Desperate, he finds Lin, only to learn the real price of changing fate isn't money—it's helping her solve a 10-year-old case: her master was punished by heaven for changing someone's fate, and Gu is the child saved back then. As they uncover the truth, they grow closer amid "fate-changing" and "debt-repaying". But just as Gu thinks the disaster is over, Lin suddenly disappears, leaving a note: "Those who change fate must eventually collect the debt for heaven..."
