Retired perfumer Lin Wanzhao guards "Gui Xiang Tang" in the old alley and never makes perfume for outsiders—until young Shen Shizhou arrives with a half-burnt perfume recipe: a relic of his mother Su Heng, the once-revered "Muse of the Perfume World" who disappeared a decade ago. Shen says his mother murmured "the scent of longing is silent" before dying and insisted on finding Lin. Lin tries to turn him away but catches a whiff of Su's familiar scent in Shen's "Lime & Cedar"—the "unspoken goodbye" they brewed together at twenty. As they restore the recipe, the secret of Su giving up her shot at fame to save Lin (and their falling out over a misunderstanding) emerges. Meanwhile, Shen's growing affection for "his mother's friend" and Lin's twenty-year guilt all turn into unspoken heart flutters in every wisp of scent.
