Real estate planner Qin Yuzhou returns to her hometown disguised as a tourist to persuade the last "holdout"—Lv Xingzhuo, a carpenter who has guarded the private bridge for a decade—to give up the land for a redevelopment project. To her shock, this quiet man is the same boy who once carved her a peach wood hairpin by the bridge and promised to "protect her forever." Using glass marbles hidden under the bridge for 18 years and faded red strings on the locust tree, Lv Xingzhuo gradually thaws her heart, frozen by the pain from her original family. Just as Qin Yuzhou decides to abandon the demolition, she finds a late-stage lung cancer diagnosis in his toolbox—revealing that what he’s guarded all along isn’t the bridge, but the unspoken "I’ve been waiting for you."
