Shen Yan, daughter of the former National Protector General, infiltrates Princess Jiang Zhao's side to clear her family's 'treason' injustice and help Jiang Zhao overthrow the regent controlling the court. Over three years, they go from mutual suspicion to sharing life and death—Shen Yan takes poisoned wine for Jiang Zhao, and Jiang Zhao begs a death-pardon token for Shen Yan. But when Jiang Zhao finally ascends the throne, Shen Yan produces the late emperor's edict, claiming the title of 'Supreme Empress' to rule and forcing Jiang Zhao to acknowledge her absolute power. Only then does Jiang Zhao realize Shen Yan's 'support' was never loyalty, but a revenge plot using her as a pawn... Yet the half jade pendant hidden in Shen Yan's sleeve—matching Jiang Zhao's—reveals her unspoken feelings: does she want imperial power, or the years spent with Jiang Zhao?
