Lin Jianguo, a nearly 50-year-old widower running an old tailor shop, lives only for his college son Lin Xiaoyu—until his son brings back Bai Qianshuang, a woman claiming to be a fox fairy from Qingqiu, as his "immortal wife" during summer vacation. This "immortal wife" can't even use a washing machine and burns the kitchen while making porridge, yet she uses her fox tail to warm Lin when his old wound acts up and feeds demon pills to stray cats at night. Lin initially wants to send her away, but can't help softening when he sees her crying secretly at the moon. Strangely, his son seems to know Bai's identity, only saying, "She can fill your regrets." Just as Lin gets used to having her around, Bai suddenly disappears, leaving a letter: "I came to repay a debt, but it seems I fell in love first..."
