Lin Xiaoman, an office worker, starts the Year of the Horse with the worst luck imaginable—her proposal gets completely rejected by the client, her three-year boyfriend cheats on her with her best friend, and she even falls into a bush in the alley after working overtime until midnight. But this fall “knocks out” a cute少年 (teenager) named A Fu wrapped in red cloth, who calls her “benefactor” with round eyes, claiming he’s a Nian Beast here to repay her kindness and fulfill three “fortune wishes” for her! A Fu’s magic always backfires in funny ways: when she wants to impress a tough client, A Fu makes the client cry while recalling his grandma’s New Year rice cakes from the Year of the Horse; when she wants to get back at her ex, A Fu accidentally makes the ex’s new fling expose his “time management” tricks; she even wins a “free milk tea for a year” prize when buying drinks! But just as Lin Xiaoman gets used to this “lucky troublemaker,” A Fu suddenly says he has to return to the “Nian Beast Realm”—it turns out that on a cold winter night ten years ago during the Year of the Horse, Lin Xiaoman had saved a shivering little Nian Beast and warmed him up in a convenience store. This “heaven-sent fortune” is just a “mutual warmth” a Nian Beast saved up for ten years.
