In 1990, Lin Jianguo, a laid-off worker, was desperate to pay for his mother's medical treatment. A broken porcelain vase he picked up by chance turned out to be a genuine Qing Dynasty official kiln piece—revealed by an old expert—earning him his first pot of gold. He started a clothing business from a street stall but faced brutal suppression from Zhou Qiang, a former factory bully: stealing supplies, smashing stalls, spreading rumors. Lin fought back using 1990s opportunities (Asian Games peripherals, township enterprise orders) and reconnected with Su Xiaomei, his childhood sweetheart who left due to a misunderstanding. Just as his business picked up, Zhou's report caused a cash flow crisis. Can the commemorative coins he’s kept for three years be his trump card? Watch how a poor guy seizes chances in the era's wave and rises from despair to a trendsetter.
