In the delivery room of a state-owned hospital in 1977, a baby's cry rewrote the fates of two infant girls—Su Xiaotang, daughter of a rural mother, was mistakenly taken to the Lin family (a deputy factory director in the city), while the Lin's biological daughter Lin Zhixia ended up in a poor mountain village.
