Lin Xiaoman, a corporate slave, hires Lu Xuan (dubbed "Mr. Nian" at a folk shop) as her fake boyfriend to avoid marriage pressure, agreeing to split after seven Spring Festival days. But Lu Xuan has real "Nian magic": he fills her empty apartment with couplets and snacks, and even shows up with a warm milk tea wrapped in his tail when Xiaoman breaks down from overtime. When Xiaoman finds his real scales under the pillow, she learns he's a Nian Beast hiding from heavenly tribulation—and all his "fake tenderness" was real. As the deadline nears and Lu Xuan must return to heaven, Xiaoman finally cries out: she's long stopped seeing him as a fake boyfriend—he's the one she wants to keep forever.
