Shen Zhaozhao, a concubine’s daughter of the Zhenguo Marquis Mansion, is sent to the Prince’s residence as a “cute concubine” due to the “father-killing” rumor. She seems as soft, sweet, and innocent as cotton, but is actually as scheming as a sugar-coated black date—she tricks the bullying side concubine into kneeling publicly, twisting framing into her own grievance. Yet Prince Xiao Jingheng acts like he’s under her spell: knowing all her little tricks, he helps her cover lies and even gives her the emperor’s jade, saying, “Did someone make you mad? Use this to hit them.” Just as Zhaozhao thinks she can keep “pretending to be good,” she discovers Xiao Jingheng has long seen through her—he never dotes on the “soft cute concubine,” but the “black lotus” who dares to play tricks in his arms. Wait, is the prince the real master of “pretending”?
