In the plum yellow season of 1924, female journalist Su Wantang returns to her windcatkin-filled Jiangnan hometown to investigate her father's disappearance. She reunites with Gu Zhaonian, her childhood sweetheart who's now the chamber of commerce president—he still calls her "Xiaotang" with a smile, but flinches when she touches his sleeve. As she digs deeper, she discovers her father's disappearance is linked to the Gu family's smuggling ring: Gu's father framed her father to cover up crimes years ago. Yet one rainy night in an alley, Gu takes a knife for her, blood soaking his shirt: "I waited seven years to dare help you uncover the truth." Catkins blur her vision, rain tangles their hands—Is he the boy who gave her plums, or the man hiding secrets thicker than the mist?
