Rebellious teen AJ drowns in street fights until a near-fatal accident lands him in hospital. His mother Linda keeps silent vigil by his bed, until AJ discovers she's secretly pawning her jewelry for his medical bills. Memories flood back - her hunched back at the night market stall, her trembling arms shielding him from gang attacks. On discharge day, AJ kneels all night before the temple his mother frequents. When dawn reveals the vocational school acceptance letter in his hands, Linda sheds her first tear in five years.
