Chu Zhao, a former prince, is chased by traitors and falls off a cliff. He survives in the mountains by eating bark, where he meets Su Wan, a doctor exiled by her family for “bringing misfortune.” Su Wan trades her last half steamed bun for Chu Zhao’s help burying her master, only to find his imperial seal in the master’s tomb. Forced to flee together, Chu Zhao uses Su Wan’s medical skills to cure a fatal poison, while Su Wan relies on Chu Zhao’s strategies to retrieve her family’s stolen medical books. As they spend time together, they go from distrust to relying on each other—Su Wan knew Chu Zhao’s identity all along: her master saved him years ago, and her “exile” was to draw away enemies. When Chu Zhao gathers his old troops to restore the kingdom, Su Wan is kidnapped by her family as a hostage. He must choose between the throne and his love. In the end, Chu Zhao marches on the Su mansion, only to see Su Wan holding the medical books and smiling: “I told you, I’ll conquer the world with you.”
