Lin Xiaoman, a picture book writer, lost her parents in a car accident three years ago—an accident where she saved Gu Yu. Since then, her world has been stuck in grayscale. That is, until Gu Yu reappears as an intern doctor. Whenever she’s near him, the illustrations in her notebook suddenly burst with color. But Gu Yu avoids her at all costs: he has a rare “emotional resonance disorder” that makes him feel others’ pain as his own. And Xiaoman’s grayscale? It’s her subconscious defense against the guilt of “surviving” that day.
