In a severe drought year, 12-year-old Xiaotang from Chenjia Village was called a "rain-summoning famine lucky star" by a witch, but the villagers saw her as a sacrifice to throw into a dry well for rain. Her parents and brother risked their lives to snatch her away and fled into the mountains overnight—her brother’s leg was broken, her mother stuffed the last handful of fried noodles into her hand, and her father said, "Our girl is a lucky star; she must live to be our family’s light." Xiaotang accidentally found a spring in the mountain stream, which brought long-awaited rain and saved the village. When the villagers thanked her, she hugged her mother and cried, "I’m not the lucky star—it’s you who risked everything to carry this 'famine lucky star' through."
