The short play "A Star in the Dark" tells the story of Lin Xiaoyu, a young designer struggling alone in a big city, who falls into self-doubt after a project failure. Wandering the empty streets late at night, she meets Grandma Chen, a sweet potato vendor sticking to her stall in the cold wind. Grandma's warm smile and a hot sweet potato she hands over remind Xiaoyu of her grandmother's care from afar. The two have a conversation about dreams and warmth on that chilly night. Grandma Chen shares her decades of street-vending experiences, telling Xiaoyu that even in darkness, the persistence in one's heart can become a star lighting the way forward. As the aroma of steaming sweet potatoes fills the air, Xiaoyu gradually lets go of her worries and rediscovers the courage to face life. Through the accidental encounter between two women of different generations, the story showcases the delicate and touching emotional connection between strangers, as well as the small but firm warm force that can dispel阴霾 (transliterated as '阴霾' here, meaning '阴霾' or 'dark clouds') in times of hardship.
