Lin Shen, a programmer, is overjoyed to accompany his girlfriend Su Xiao back to her hometown in Huizhou for Chinese New Year to meet her family, only to step into a deepening mystery—Su Xiao's six sisters all act oddly: the eldest burns a blood-stained silk handkerchief in the ancestral hall late at night, the second locks his luggage in the cellar, the third always adds bitter medicine to his tea, the fourth stares at his face and says, "You're finally here," and even the gentle Su Xiao starts avoiding him, her eyes hiding an incomprehensible struggle. When he finds an old account book in the Su family's old ancestral hall, he discovers a portrait exactly like himself, with a note: "Guangxu 23rd year, Lin Zhaoyan betrayed seven girls and hanged himself to atone." On New Year's Eve, the seven Su sisters sit around him in red wedding dresses, and Su Xiao hands him a bowl of medicine through tears: "A Yan, don't leave us again in this life..."
