Lin Chuan, a Beijing drifter, is forced into marriage by his parents with the threat of disownment when he returns home for Chinese New Year. Unexpectedly, a woman named Su Wan, wearing a red veil, shows up the next day—she not only asks for no bride price but also offers an 88,000-yuan dowry. Lin Chuan plans to pacify his parents first, but he soon notices Su Wan’s oddities: she never feels cold, prays to the moon late at night, and an old photo album reveals a woman who looks exactly like her—she was his grandfather’s unmarried bride decades ago. Who is the woman under the red veil? Is she a decades-old obsession or a secret-laden scheme?
