Shen Zhaoning, daughter of a wronged official, enters the palace as a sweeping maid under a false name to clear her father's name. One rainy night, she rescues Xiao Heng, a "guard" with severe injuries. As they stay together in the side hall—she teaches him to weave grass insects, he shields her from slaps—affection grows silently. But when Xiao Heng's dragon robe is exposed, and the evidence for her father's case points to Xiao Heng's uncle's powerful Ning Guogong Mansion, their love is torn apart by power struggles. Just as she thinks everything is a lie, she finds Xiao Heng had known her identity all along: the clues for her case delivered at night, the hidden arrows he blocked for her—all are his deep love hidden behind the kingdom. After Ning Guogong's rebellion is exposed, Shen Zhaoning kneels on the jade steps. Xiao Heng walks over and lifts her up, saying, "I want this kingdom, but I want you more."
