Su Wan, a young cook, sneaks into the Prince Regent's mansion kitchen to pay her father's debt, only to be framed for ruining a dish. At the critical moment, Gu Zhao, a "humble scholar" at the banquet, saves her. That night, she learns Gu Zhao is actually the young emperor in disguise—three years ago, Su Wan saved him from assassins with a bowl of tomato and egg noodles. On New Year's Eve, as the mansion kneels to greet the emperor, Su Wan is being fed dumplings by Gu Zhao at the stove: "The kingdom is my duty, but you are the 'New Year's Eve dinner' I want to keep most."
