Here, the aroma of her childhood pineapple buns lingers, along with the secret of her mother's sudden disappearance years ago. A-Jie clearly recognizes her but dodges questions about her mom; in an old photo on the wall, her mother's smile eerily matches A-Jie's late brother. When the demolition team sprays red paint on the door, Xiaoman finally learns: her mom didn't abandon her—she sacrificed her life to save A-Jie's brother. And A-Jie? He's been keeping the restaurant not just to carry his brother's guilt over her mom, but to hold onto Xiaoman's last piece of "home".
