In the late Ming Dynasty, a devastating famine swept across northern Shanxi, turning the once-lush land into a parched wasteland. Villagers teetered on the edge of starvation. Orphaned girl A Shi accidentally awakened an ability to hear the whispers of plants and soil, through which she unearthed century-old buried grain seeds in the barren fields and found a hidden spring from the murmurs of the dried-up riverbed. But local grain merchants hoarded food and tried to seize A Shi’s ability for huge profits, even framing villagers who resisted. A Shi teamed up with a disheartened failed scholar to expose the merchants’ conspiracy, leading the entire village to dig up hidden grain and divert spring water using the clues from the whispers, fighting their way out of the desperate famine.
