Lin Xiaoman, a 996 operator at an internet company, was rushed to hospital for a stomach bleed from overwork. When she woke up, she clutched her old library card from her alma mater—the “secret base” where she read *The Little Prince* in college. Learning the library was closing due to plummeting enrollment and funding shortages, she quit her 300,000-yuan-a-year job to become the “youngest librarian” at her school. She used digital strategies to create “graduation nostalgia book lists” and host “late-night library confession livestreams,” only to be criticized by senior colleagues: “Libraries are for reading, not attention-seeking!” To her surprise, her former boss offered double pay to lure her back. While sorting old books, she found an unsent love letter hidden by the elderly librarian for 12 years—turns out, this fading library holds “affection” warmer than “making money.” When the closure notice is posted, can she save her “secret base”?
