On her wedding day, Shen Ninger, daughter of the Prime Minister, was about to enter the palace when she saw Emperor Qing Chu Yuan behead her father with his own hands—the edict for her family's execution came from her "groom." Imprisoned in the cold palace for three years, she endured daily torture from Chu Yuan's substitute concubine Liu Rush: silver needles pricking her fingertips, cold water drenching her body, all to make her admit "she was inferior to the substitute." Right before her death, she heard Chu Yuan roar: "I was trying to protect you!" It turned out the massacre was a frame-up, the imprisonment was to prevent assassination, and Liu Rush was just a pawn to lure the real enemy. But Ninger's eyes were already closed. Three days later, Chu Yuan held her body and set himself on fire in the peach grove of the Prime Minister's mansion. In the flames, he said: "This time, I'll chase you."
