Xuan Chen, the God of War in the Heavenly Realm, descends to the mortal world to undergo a love tribulation, disguising himself as Shen Ming, a poor white-collar worker, to find his reincarnated partner Su Wan. But Su Wan has long been influenced by her snobbish friends, despising Shen Ming for being penniless. She humiliates him repeatedly with her friends: breaking the thousand-year-old jade hairpin he gave her at her birthday party, stealing his project at work, and even posting on social media, "Annoyed by a clingy poor guy." When the ascension tribulation arrives, golden light surrounds Shen Ming, his celestial token floats in the air, and the gate to the Heavenly Realm opens behind him. Staring at his familiar divine armor, Su Wan suddenly remembers Xuan Chen saying "Don't be afraid, I'm here" when he shielded her from thunder a thousand years ago. She realizes the "poor guy" she humiliated is the lover who's waited for her three lifetimes! She rushes over, grabbing his衣角 and crying, "I'm sorry!" But Xuan Chen just flicks her hand away and says calmly, "The tribulation is over. We're even."
