Chu Heng, the youngest son of the late emperor, was framed by his half-brother Chu Yu five years ago. He witnessed his parents' tragic death and had to fake his own death to escape to the border, biding his time. Five years later, he returns disguised as a "useless political hostage", secretly rallying old loyalists to expose Chu Yu's tyranny and the people's boiling resentment. Meanwhile, he reunites with Shen Zhaozhao—his former lover, now Chu Yu's top strategist. Their lingering affection clashes with their roles as "avenger" and "counselor". As Chu Heng uncovers the truth about his family's massacre, he finds the mastermind is tied to Shen Zhaozhao's family vendetta. A game of power and deep love begins: he seeks to reclaim the throne, but more importantly, to protect the true heart hidden beneath all the schemes.
