Su Wan accidentally became the special assistant to Shengting Group's president Lu Jingshen under the identity of a "returnee top student" when she covered her best friend's shift. To keep her "fake top student" secret, she pretended to be professional and cold every day, but always slipped up in front of Lu Jingshen—she made espresso into sweet milk coffee, added pearls to the tea from elders during contract talks, and even sent Lu Jingshen's custom suit to the laundry which shrank. However, Lu Jingshen didn't expose her; instead, he secretly helped her cover up: calling the "tea with pearls" a "new Chinese creative tea drink" and the shrunken suit the "latest slim-fit style". When Su Wan finally summoned the courage to resign and confess, Lu Jingshen pinned her to the desk and took out a "lifelong special assistant contract": "I knew you weren't a top student a long time ago—but what I want is never a perfect employee, but you who can sweeten my coffee."
