Lin Xiaoman, an ordinary office worker, picks up a bronze mask tied with a red string on her way home from overtime. Since then, strange things plague her: every night she dreams of a woman in a Republic of China cheongsam crying "Give me back my face", her colleague's coffee cup suddenly explodes, and her boyfriend—missing for three years—appears as the "mask guardian". She finds the mask can "read the dead's obsessions", but using it makes her lose her own face. Tracing the mask's origin, she uncovers the truth: her boyfriend died saving her in a car accident, sealing his soul into the mask to protect her, and the curse is his obsession to "see her one more time". Before the mask devours her, Lin must face her guilt, say the late "I love you", and break the cycle to save both.
