In 1945, the final year of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Su Qingluan—an underground Communist intelligence agent disguised as a wealthy merchant’s daughter in southern Jiangsu—is forced to marry Gu Zhaoting, the young marshal of a northern Jiangsu warlord, to steal intelligence on Japanese military supplies. Gu, seemingly frivolous, is actually a "hidden guardian" secretly tracking Japanese movements. They marry with their own agendas but grow from mutual suspicion to affection through repeated life-and-death crises: Japanese chases, intelligence leaks. When Su’s Communist identity is exposed to Kuomintang agents, Gu faces a choice between "party-state orders" and "his lover’s life"; meanwhile, the Japanese plot to bomb the Jiangnan arms factory pushes them to the edge. Amidst the flames of war, can they break through ideological barriers, hold onto their love, and safeguard the last hope of their country?
