In the late 1980s, Lin Chuan, a down-and-out worker, is reborn on the eve of his unit's last welfare housing allocation. To secure the house, he reluctantly enters a fake marriage with Su Xiaotang, a woman stigmatized as "kefu" (bringing bad luck to husbands) by rumors. He plans to divorce once he gets the house, but his past enemies keep emerging—the lecherous factory director coveting Xiaotang, his cousin who embezzled his family's property, and neighbors who kick him when he's down. With memories from his past life, Lin Chuan takes down each villain one by one. From selling electronic watches on the street to opening a department store, his career soars to legendary heights. Meanwhile, the once cold and distant Xiaotang falls for him through his repeated protection. When the fake marriage certificate turns into real love, Lin Chuan realizes the true love he missed in his past life is the one he should cherish most in this life.
