During the Republic of China, Shen Yanning, a female military governor of the northern lands, infiltrates Shanghai to investigate her brother's unjust death. She accidentally detains Gu Zhaozhi, the most famous opera star in the city—this man with a mole at the corner of his eye is as soft as a water-soaked white plum, yet he sneaks into her study at midnight, presses a gun to her temple, and smiles: “Governor Shen, it's time to repay the life you owe.” It turns out he's not a manipulable actor, but the hidden young marshal of the southwest, who joined the opera troupe to avenge his family's blood feud. When the controlling female warlord meets the “sweet husband” who pretends to be soft but hides thorns, power games hold unspoken affection, and revenge plots involve mutual scheming—she thinks she's the hunter, but little does she know that from the first glance, she became his “prey.”
