Xia Xiaoman, an old-item restorer, has a ten-year secret—every year when cicadas first chirp, she receives an anonymous dried cicada exoskeleton. This midsummer, Lin Zhiyuan, a designer insistent on restoring an old insect guide, bursts into her shop. His face is exactly like the “Cicada Boy” from her childhood—the boy she gave her father’s guide to when he was lost, who promised, “I’ll come find you when cicadas sing again.” But Lin stubbornly denies knowing her. Until Xia finds a note with a cicada exoskeleton in the old book—revealing their waits had long tangled into a circle, and the cicadas’ song is the unbroken “rendezvous signal” between them.
