In 1985, Chen Mo, a factory technician, meets dancer Su Xiaotang in a northern town during China's reform era. Their bond deepens when Chen secretly repairs her late mother's record player. But when Su gets selected for an international exchange program, Chen's family background prevents him from joining her. On the stormy night before her departure, Chen arrives with a handmade music box containing his piano rendition of 'The Moon Represents My Heart'. Two decades later, now a renowned choreographer, Su rediscovers the music box at a flea market. As the melody plays, she turns to see the gray-haired Chen smiling at her.
