In the 13th year of the Republic of China, Lin Wan, a female forensic doctor returning from overseas study, takes on the serial "Paper Man Murders"—victims wrapped like funeral paper figures, with a cinnabar mark on their chests as the only clue. Following the lead, she tracks down the largest foreign firm in the concession and encounters Shen Yanqing, the elegant young owner: this man, who seemingly deals in antiques, frequently sneaks into mass graves at night. When Lin Wan finds the same cinnabar in Shen Yanqing's pocket, the next target of the murders turns out to be herself. Is it fated attraction or a deadly trap? In the dark night, someone burns their life as a lamp, determined to pierce through the opium smoke and reveal the bloody truth.
