Lin Xiaochuan, a naive young Taoist who just came down from the mountain, stumbles into a dilapidated temple while searching for his sect's lost pills—only to meet Bai Lian, a thousand-year-old fairy covered in mud who failed her ascension and is looking for her core lotus root (her natal magic artifact). Mistaking the lotus for a 'millennium ginseng,' Lin eats it all—binding them together: they share cultivation power and even the pain of a scratch! Bai Lian is so angry she wants to skin him, but without the lotus, she can't ascend again; Lin is desperate to break the bond, only to learn the only way is to help Bai Lian retrieve three remaining magic artifacts. Forced to team up, they handle Bai Lian's 'ancient fairy' culture shock (like mistaking a phone for a 'voice-transmitting mirror'), evade the demon cultivator who sabotaged her ascension, and slowly unravel their intertwined fates amid chaotic yet heartwarming daily life...
