In 1998, Lin Hao arrives in Guancheng with his terminally ill girlfriend Xiaoyun and debt-ridden brother A Qiang—all they have is three yuan. To pay Xiaoyun’s surgery fees, Lin takes a job as a brick carrier, but offends a local gang when he protects A Qiang from debt collectors. Beaten and bleeding, Lin hears Xiaoyun whisper, “I’ll wait for you,” and A Qiang sob, “I’ll quit gambling”—and vows to give them a better life. From selling second-hand construction materials to dominating logistics, Lin climbs from nothing to the top of Guancheng’s underworld. But when he rushes to the hospital with millions, Xiaoyun is gone; when he looks for A Qiang, only a letter remains: “You’ve changed.” Did he fight for the future, or lose the ones he loved most?
