Scholar Lin Zhao went to Beijing for the imperial exam, only to be framed by his fellow villager—who stole his identity to win the exam and planted stolen goods on him, landing him in death row. In despair, his childhood playmate Ah Fu—now Eunuch Li, a powerful eunuch in the palace—showed up. Eunuch Li was back home to find a "lover" for the emperor's favored concubine. Seeing Lin Zhao's handsome looks and unjust plight, he offered a deal: help him escape, but Lin must pretend to be a rich young man to apply. Lin agreed to clear his name, but when he entered the concubine's manor, he found his imposter was also a candidate. Worse, the "lover" the concubine wanted was actually a living "life-transfer" medicine for the dying emperor! Caught between clearing his name and survival, can Lin Zhao uncover the layers of conspiracy?
