Lin Xiaoman, 28, endures non-stop PUA at work—staying up all night to revise plans is labeled "ability training," and taking the blame is "team spirit." Her patriarchal family is even more parasitic: her mother forces her to fund her brother's house, demanding she sell the wedding apartment she saved five years for. The final straw? Her brother steals her savings to pay off gambling debts. That night, she slams his collection notice on the table, tears up the "lifelong support agreement" her mother shoved at her, quits her job without a backup, and moves to a tiny rental in the old town. There, she meets Gu Chuan at the corner café—his smile feels like sunlight. He leaves a warm light on for her when she works late, and accompanies her to the art gallery to see her favorite Monet paintings. Standing in a sunflower field with her new art gallery job offer, she finally understands: every step after the heart grows cold is a step towards the light.
