Lin Shen is reborn in 1985, two months before his wife Su Xiaomei and daughter Xiaotang died in a textile factory fire—carrying the regret of missing their last moments. Now, Su Xiaomei is still working overtime to save their daughter's tuition, and Xiaotang still jumps into his arms asking for bedtime stories. Lin Shen swears to rewrite the ending: he quits his porter job to learn repair skills, hoping to fix the factory's aging circuits; but Su Xiaomei thinks he's being reckless, leading to a big fight; the director calls him a busybody and bars him from the factory. As the fire's date nears, can Lin Shen overcome obstacles and protect his wife and daughter?
