Modern office worker Lin Xiaoman stayed up late on a project and died suddenly, waking up as Su Wan—a girl sold by her family for three liters of rice in an ancient famine year. Staring at Gu Zhao, the lame hunter in patchwork clothes, she clutched a porcelain shard in her sleeve—this wasn’t marriage, it was jumping into a fire pit! But though Gu Zhao had a bad leg, he always saved the tenderest wild rabbit meat for her, polished his only straw shoes shiny for her before hunting, and even fell down a hillside (cutting his head) to pick wild ginger for her stomachache. She used modern wild vegetable knowledge to help him find edible ashweed, and turned old clothes into a backpack to ease his hunting. When the village faced food shortage, Gu Zhao cooked all his hidden millet into porridge while gnawing on tree bark; when she saved half a month’s mending money to buy coarse cloth for his new pants, Gu Zhao hugged her with red eyes: "I never thought anyone would care for me in this life." Turns out, the "lame leg" hides a man who gives all his tenderness in every step; the "hard life" is having someone who saves the last bite of hot food for you in a famine.
